Pear Ginger Quick Bread
This moist and delicious Pear Ginger Quick Bread is simple and full of flavor with fresh pears, warm spices of ginger, and cinnamon. It’s the perfect touch of sweetness for a cup of coffee in the afternoon. I also love it as dessert, warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, because what isn’t better with a scoop of ice cream, right?

My favorite pears for baking
My favorite pears for Fall baking are Bosc. Bosc pears hold up well to baking, poaching, or grilling due to the firm texture. Second to that would be Anjou Pears. I prefer to peel them for baking, but you can keep the peel on for garnishing your baked goods. If you have perused my site, you will notice that I love recipes with pears. My favorites are Radicchio Pear Salad with Maple Vinaigrette, Little Gem Pear and Gorgonzola Salad, and Puff Pastry with Pears Gorgonzola and Walnuts.
Equipment
- 2 bowls: one for dry ingredients and one for wet ingredients
- Stand mixer or hand mixer (I love my Kitchenaid – I’ve had it 20 years and it’s a workhorse.)
- Loaf pan or 8″ round cake pan
Ingredients
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger, ground
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, ground
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (or shortening)
- 1/2 cup granulated white sugar
- 1/2 cup of light brown sugar
- 2 eggs, large
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup regular Greek yogurt or sour cream
- 1 cup Bosc pear peeled, cored, and cubed
- Powdered sugar for garnish
- Nonstick baking spray

Preparation
Preheat oven to 350ยบF.
Prepare the pan using good quality non-stick baking spray. Set aside.
Add the dry ingredients to a medium bowl. Flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, ginger, and cinnamon. Stir until the dry ingredients are blended.
Using a second bowl, add butter and sugar. Using a mixer, cream the butter and sugars together. Add eggs, vanilla extract, and yogurt and mix until the ingredients are incorporated. Refrain from overmixing so the bread doesn’t toughen. Fold in chopped pears into the batter until incorporated.
Pour the batter into the pan, spreading it evenly into the cake or loaf pan. Bake for 30 minutes in a cake pan or 40 minutes in a loaf pan. The Pear Ginger quick bread will be done with a toothpick is inserted in the center and comes out clean.

Tips and suggestions
This quick bread is lovely to bake and share. Here are a few tips to ensure that it bakes perfectly each time. Refrain from overworking the batter…this toughens the bread, which results in an overly dense and dry loaf.
I like to serve this warm with softened, whipped butter and a little honey.
Wrap any leftovers tightly in plastic wrap to enjoy later. This Pear Ginger Quick bread can be refrigerated for a few days. To warm a slice of bread, either microwave for 5-10 seconds or wrap in foil and warm in the oven for a few minutes.
