Healthy Tropical Mocktail
This refreshing and hydrating Healthy Tropical Mocktail is my new Summer crush. With robust flavors of the tropics, like Pineapple juice and coconut water, this easy Mocktail will be your new favorite sipper. Bonus? Super hydrating and low in calories!
Cocktail vs Mocktail?
In recent years, many people, myself included, have either cut alcohol out of their diet or curbed it. For me, the choice to reduce alcohol in my diet has been due to health issues. In a nutshell, I have to keep hydrated! On occasion, I still enjoy a fabulous cocktail. Still, mocktails offer the flavor and fun of a wonderfully garnished beverage that feels like a cocktail from the outward appearance but has no side effects. You can peruse my cocktail and beverage page for more ideas.
So what’s the difference between the two? A cocktail offers a combination of ingredients that include some alcohol. The cocktail might be mixed with fruit juices, mixers, or more complex ingredients, but alcohol will always complement the ingredients or be the main ingredient. A mocktail, on the other hand, has many of the ingredients and fresh garnishes but minus any type of alcohol.
This Healthy Tropical Mocktail is fun to serve and drink and contains a nice dose of vitamin B, Magnesium, and Potassium—two essential minerals for hydration.
Health benefits
Juice typically is higher in calories and not as nutritionally dense as eating a piece of fruit. You miss out on the fiber and satiation. However, what juice can offer, mainly orange and pineapple, is hydration support. I mean, both of these juices contain a healthy dose of potassium and magnesium. What about coconut water? 8 ounces has 50% of the daily recommendation of vitamin C in addition to 470mg of Potassium and 14mg of Magnesium. So, the benefits outweigh the calories for sure. Plus, the taste? Perfectly sweet and refreshing!
Six ingredients and simply delicious!
Simple is sometimes the most delicious. In the kitchen, I strive for simplicity whenever possible. This delightful Healthy Tropical Mocktail is simple, comes together quickly, and you will love it! I like mixing mine in a cocktail shaker to get the pineapple juice frothy on the top. For this beverage, you will need the following ingredients for one mocktail:
- 1/2 cup of Organic pineapple juice, no sugar added (I used RW Knudsen brand)
- 1/4 cup of Organic orange juice
- 1/2 cup of coconut water
- juice of 1/2 a lime
- 1/2 teaspoon of agave syrup
- 2-4 fresh mint leaves
- ice
- An additional fresh mint sprig + a fresh pineapple wedge for garnish
How to make this Healthy Tropical Mocktail
This wonderful beverage comes together quickly. Fill a shaker or large glass three-quarters full with ice. Add the pineapple, orange, and lime juices, the coconut water, agave syrup, and 2-4 mint leaves. Place the lid on the shaker and shake until the juice is frothy. At the same time, the mint will bruise, allowing just enough of the mint taste to compliment the mocktail. Pour the drink into a glass, with ice and mint included. Garnish with additional mint and a wedge of fresh pineapple.
How to make a batch of Healthy Tropical Mocktail
This is a beautiful beverage to make in a large batch. For 8 servings, you need an 80-ounce or 2.5 quart pitcher and the following ingredients:
- 4 cups of Organic pineapple juice, no sugar added (I used RW Knudsen brand)
- 2 cups of Organic orange juice
- 4 cups of coconut water
- juice of 4 limes
- 4 teaspoons of agave syrup
- 16-32 fresh mint leaves
- 8 fresh mint sprigs + a fresh pineapple wedges for garnish (you can use drained, canned pineapple on small skewers for garnish)
Since you won’t be able to use the cocktail shaker to bruise the mint, tear the mint leaves and stir into the beverage. You will have the same effect and a hint of mint.
Chill before serving.
Serve with ice and garnishes on the side so guests can help themselves.
Tips
You will not want to change this recipe since it’s just the perfect balance of sweetness and taste. But you can undoubtedly adjust all the flavors to suit your tastes. Honey can be swapped for the agave syrup, and you can opt for non-organic juices. I recommend no-sugar-added juice, or else it will be too sweet.
